- Does my furnace have a pilot light, and what should I do if it goes out? – Most modern furnaces do not have a standing pilot light flame. Instead, they use a hot surface ignitor to light the main furnace burners when the thermostat signals a furnace start. Some older furnaces, however, still have a pilot light. If your furnace does not start, you should have it checked by a technician from a licensed HVAC company, like Residential Heating & Air Conditioning.
- My furnace does not seem to be heating as well as it used to. What should I do? -There could be several reasons for this. Start by checking your furnace filter. Many furnace problems are caused by neglected, dirty filters. If yours is dirty, replace it. If that doesn’t take care of the problem, call Residential Heating & Air Conditioning to have your furnace checked or tuned up.
- I’m leaving town for a week, and don’t want to waste money. How low can I set my thermostat? – If you have pets in your home, don’t set it lower than 65 degrees. If not, you can set it at about 60 degrees. That will protect your pipes from freezing and save energy.
- I keep forgetting to adjust my thermostat when I leave the house for work. How can I keep from wasting energy? – That’s simple. Switch from your old manual thermostat to a programmable thermostat. You’ll be able to set your thermostat once to handle your normal schedule. Call Residential Heating & Air Conditioning to have one of our technicians install this money-saving programmable thermostat.
- My current furnace is 15 years old. Should I replace it? – It’s probably time to replace your old furnace. Chances are it’s not a high-efficiency furnace, and it may be reaching the end of its useful life. You’ll assure yourself of reliable heat and great energy savings with a new high-efficiency furnace. Call us for a free evaluation in your home and estimate on a new high-efficiency furnace from Carrier or Goodman.
- We just bought a beautiful older home, but it has an Octopus Furnace. We’re thinking about replacing it and adding central air conditioning. Is that a good idea? – Absolutely. Those old gravity or octopus furnaces are horribly inefficient and take up a lot of space. Plus, they contain asbestos, which is harmful to your health. Residential Heating & Air Conditioning specializes in replacing gravity furnaces, and have replaced over a 1,000 of them in the Twin Cities. Call us for a free, no-obligation evaluation and estimate. You’ll save hundreds on your energy bills and have a more comfortable home all year.
- My furnace is making funny noises. Is it safe? – Anytime you hear unusual noises from your furnace, you should have it inspected by a licensed HVAC contractor. Call us for a prompt service call.
