How a Ductless Mini-Split Can Increase Energy Efficiency

These days, we are all looking for ways to reduce our energy use. But it can be tough to use less energy when it involves keeping your home comfortable. That’s why we want to tell you more about the unique features of ductless mini-split in Minneapolis, MN.

Using a ductless system may seem like a far-fetched idea to you. However, these systems have come a long way and become much more adept at what they can offer. This includes improving energy savings.

If you want to learn more about ductless systems to see if they’re a good fit for you, read on!

Inverter motor capabilities

Many ductless systems come with inverter motors. These types of motors provide better control of the temperature in the home by slowing down the system as it gets closer to the desired temperature. This way, your system isn’t running at either 0% or 100%—there are modes in between the two that an inverter motor can use to help adjust the temperature while using far less energy.

Year-round comfort

A ductless mini-split also uses heat pump technology. This means it can reverse the flow of refrigerant, allowing it to either pull heat into the house or transfer heat out. As you can guess, this means that you can enjoy both home cooling and home heating from one system. Having one system that does the job of two and uses only electricity to do it is a huge energy saver!

Easy zone control

Each air handler that makes up a ductless system can be run individually. So if you want to just heat up the living room where everyone is enjoying a movie, you can. This translates to easy zone control and allows you the chance to save energy by avoiding heating up parts of the house that aren’t in use.

No fuel to burn

Ductless mini-splits also use electricity to move heat, rather than burning fuel to create it. While burning natural gas is cleaner than burning oil would be, it is better to use solely electricity. What’s more, there is no wasted heat when you use an all-electric system: all the energy that your system uses to move heat becomes heat!

No ductwork, no problem

If you don’t have a home with ductwork and you’ve been getting by with space heaters, then a ductless mini-split may feel like a godsend. These systems don’t need ductwork to adjust the temperature! Instead, multiple air handlers are installed throughout the house and connected to a singular outdoor unit. This setup allows the system to adjust the temperature without the need of ductwork, which is great news. The great news even applies to homes with ductwork that may want to make a switch since ducts can be responsible for a loss of up to 30% of your system’s efficiency.

Better indoor air quality

Yes, a ductless system can also improve the air quality in your home. Each air handler is equipped with a filter than can capture and remove airborne debris. Also, you don’t have to worry about debris from dirty or leaky ductwork entering your home.
